It had been strange enough trying to ask the new Doctor to keep taking her along on his travels. She knew it was the same man, just with a different face, but things still felt new. Of course, they weren’t. She wouldn’t trust him if it weren’t the same Doctor, her Doctor, and yet it felt like she was meeting someone new.

That first night together was different. Should she go to her own room, or his? She’d spent so much time in his room, the old Doctor’s room, that she’d almost taken to calling it their room. But it was still his room, and he was new, and maybe he wouldn’t want her there anymore.

“I don’t care, you know,” he said, sidling up from behind. He looked great in the fresh suit he’d recently started wearing and a fancy little tie. His hair was mused, which she liked, and his eyes sparkled; different color, but just as beautiful.

“Don’t care ‘bout what?” she asked, though she figured she knew.

The Doctor’s arms reached forward, encircling her waist from behind. She let her eyes flutter close as she leaned back into him, relishing in the feel of him against her again, and soaking up the differences. “Don’t care whether you slept in my room or yours. That’s what you were thinking, isn’t it?”

Rose nodded, murmuring in assent. “But you’ve got a preference, haven’t you?” Her hands rose, to fold comfortably over his. They were thinner, smaller, but still warm and familiar. She grinned.

“Of course I do,” he said, whispering into her ear. “I should hope you do, too.”

Her grin grew into a laugh, and she wormed herself around in his embrace, throwing her arms around his neck as she leaned into him. “I have,” she admitted, standing on her toes to kiss him.

He matched her grin. “Oh? Well, don’t be rude now, let’s share.”

Rose laughed, dropped her hands to his tie and led him out down the corridor, toward his room, the one she shared with him, the one that was almost theirs.
